Frequently Asked Questions

    • What is the difference between dabbing and vaping?

Dabbing and vaping are distinct methods of consuming cannabis concentrates, characterized by differences in technique and equipment.

Dabbing entails heating a concentrated cannabis extract, like wax or shatter, on a heated surface using a specialized dab rig. Vaping, a more general term, encompasses various methods of vaporizing concentrates such as vape pens, e-rigs, flower vaporizers, and closed loop systems like vape carts. Vaping involves heating the concentrate at lower temperatures, resulting in a milder vapor.

While dabbing technically falls under vaping because the concentrate is vaporized, the term "dabbing" specifically refers to using a dab rig. Vaping is a broader category encompassing different devices and approaches.

    • Is a vaporizer and a dab rig the same thing?

Vaporizers and dab rigs are both popular methods for consuming cannabis concentrates, but there are important distinctions to consider. While it is true that all e-rigs can be classified as vaporizers, it's crucial to delve deeper into the nuances of their functionality and design.

Closed loop systems, like vaporizer carts, are associated with vaporizers. These systems use pre-filled cartridges with concentrated cannabis oil.

Open loop systems include e-rigs, flower vaporizers, and dab pens. E-rigs have heating elements and chambers for solid concentrates like wax or shatter. Flower vaporizers vaporize ground cannabis flower in a chamber. Dab pens are compact and portable, with heating elements and replaceable/refillable cartridges for concentrates.

Understanding the differences helps individuals make informed choices based on preferences and desired experiences. Closed loop systems offer convenience and consistency for on-the-go use. Open loop systems provide versatility, allowing users to handle different forms of concentrates.

By clarifying the distinction between closed and open loop systems, you can choose the method that suits your needs. Whether it's the simplicity and portability of vaporizers or the versatility of e-rigs, individuals can tailor their cannabis consumption experience accordingly.

    • How do I choose the right vaporizer for me?

Choosing the right vaporizer is crucial to enjoying the benefits of cannabis. Compared to traditional smoking methods, vaporizers and e-rigs eliminate ash and combustion, allowing for a smoother hit. It's important to choose a piece that meets your specific needs and preferences to ensure a satisfying experience.

When choosing between consumption methods, there are various factors to take into account, including:

      Dabbing frequency

How often you dab or smoke will play a role in which device you prefer. The Peak and Peak Pro both offer an average of 30 dabs per charge and reach a full battery charge in 2 hours.

      Flavor

When choosing a dabbing or vaping device, it's important to consider what type of flavor you prefer, as the flavor of your dab can be impacted by the materials used in the construction of the device and the method of vaporization.

For example, some devices may produce a harsher or more intense flavor, while others may offer a smoother, more nuanced taste. Lucky for Puffco customers, all our devices are expertly designed to offer optimal flavor no matter what piece you choose.

      Heating range and duration

Heating customizability options allow you to tailor your cannabis experience by selecting low, medium, or high heat settings for your dabs. This enables you to have a more personalized and precise experience, which can enhance the effects and flavor of your cannabis.

Puffco devices are created with consumer heat preference in mind. The Proxy offers 4 preset heat settings and a 30-second heat-up time, while the Peak Pro offers additional dabbing temperatures with customizable heat profiles and an average heat-up time of 20 seconds. Both ensure optimal dabbing experiences for the user.

      Ease of use

Dabbing, once considered complex, has been made much simpler with the advent of e-rigs and vaporizers. These electronic devices eliminated the need for a torch to heat the nail, making the process much safer and easier.

Considering ease of use is important when choosing an e-rig or vape because it simplifies the learning process, reduces the risk, and makes the device practical for everyday use.

With e-rigs, you can take advantage of intelligent temperature calibration to achieve the perfect temperature for your dab, ensuring a consistent and enjoyable experience every time. Additionally, Puffco rigs allow for customization through an ecosystem of accessories, making it possible to tailor your hits to your preferences.

      Portability

Portability is a key factor to consider when choosing a vape or any other smoking device, especially if you plan to use it while on the go or want to take a quick hit while relaxing at home. A smaller, sleeker vape, like the Plus, can be particularly appealing to those who value convenience and want a device that is easy to carry in a pocket or purse.

      Ergonomics

When choosing a vaping device, ergonomics is an important factor to consider. A well-designed vape includes ergonomic features that allow you to hold your device comfortably and with ease. Choosing a device with ergonomic features can help reduce strain and fatigue, making your vaping experience more enjoyable.

      Aesthetics

When choosing a dab rig, it's important to select a device that you find visually appealing or one that you're happy to showcase in your home. Whether it's a sleek and modern design or a more unique and artistic piece, selecting a vaporizer that you enjoy looking at can enhance your overall vaping experience.

      Price

Price will always influence your cannabis purchasing decisions, including vaporizers and dab rigs. While it may be tempting to go for cheaper devices, investing in high-quality vaporizers can make a big difference. Puffco’s devices not only last longer but also offer superior features and a more enjoyable vaping experience overall.

    • How do I know how much cannabis concentrate to use?

If you're new to using cannabis concentrates, it’s always recommended to start small. The potency of concentrates is typically higher than other cannabis products so less is needed to achieve the desired effects.

A dab no larger than a grain of rice is recommended until you understand how the concentrate affects you. Keep in mind, you can always add more concentrate and dab again if necessary.

    • How should you clean your vape or dab rig?

Proper maintenance is crucial whether you're using an e-rig or vaporizer. The sticky nature of concentrates can make them prone to messiness, but regular cleaning prevents the build-up of harmful bacteria and enhances your overall vaping experience.

Glass, quartz, and ceramic exposed surfaces can be cleaned with 91%+ isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab. However, for vaporizers, it depends on the design and construction of the device. To avoid damaging your vaporizer or e-rig, refer to the Puffco support page for specific cleaning instructions.

When cleaning your Puffco e-rig, you can fully submerge the chamber in isopropyl alcohol (ISO) while cleaning the outside of the device.

When cleaning your vape, it's especially crucial to keep the connection between the battery and atomizer clean. Any residue can disrupt the connection, affecting the device's performance. You can typically disassemble most vaporizers to clean the atomizer and mouthpiece thoroughly.

When cleaning your Peak Pro, the chamber should be soaked in ISO each time the battery depletes and needs to be recharged. If you notice excess flooding or a red-white light response from the device, it is also recommended to soak the chamber in ISO. Regular cleaning will ensure optimal performance and prolong the lifespan of your device.

By following the manufacturer's instructions and paying attention to the critical parts of the device, you can ensure that your device delivers a satisfying vaping experience while minimizing the risk of bacterial growth.
